The Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, also known as Kallimarmaro (meaning “beautifully marbled”), is one of the most historically significant sporting venues in the world. Originally built in 330 BC for the Panathenaic Games, it was later rebuilt in marble by the Roman emperor Herodes Atticus in the 2nd century AD. This all-marble stadium is the only one of its kind in the world, and it played a pivotal role in the revival of the Olympic Games in 1896, hosting the first modern Olympics.
